Friendly Women's Ministry  (WMU)

The Friendly Women’s Ministry (Women’s Missionary Union) is dedicated to reaching others for Christ through missions, witnessing, and serving.  There are a number of ways in which this is done.

SUPPORT OF MISSIONARIES:  A mission house is provided for furloughing missionaries to use.  Financial support of missions is provided through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions, the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions, and the North Carolina Missions Offering, as well as from special activities described below:

  • HOME AND CLOSET SALE: A sale of donated items is held twice a year.
  • CRAFT FAIR: A Craft Fair provides added funds for support of missions.
  • FESTIVAL OF TABLES: An annual event for ladies is held in November. Hostesses decorate tables on a biblical theme.  Tickets are sold, with half of funds going toward the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions.  An auction of donated items adds to missions support.

RON AND EVELYN HILL SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR MISSIONARIES’ CHILDREN: Each year, the Friendly Women’s Ministry (WMU) provides a minimum of one scholarship of at least $1,000 to the college child of a missionary.

FRIENDLY WOMEN’S MINISTRY WMU CIRCLES:   Several circles from different age groups meet monthly for Bible study, praying for missionaries, and Christian fellowship.  These circles do various projects to serve others, including providing food and clothing for the homeless, preparing a Teacher Appreciation Luncheon for the Doris Henderson Newcomers School, contributing to a scholarship for a Karen college student, and assisting with the “Out of the Garden” project.
