How to become a member of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church

Being a part of a family brings a sense of belonging and fulfillment. It also provides you with pastors who are responsible to care for you, watching over you in obedience to the Lord. If you have received Jesus as Lord and Savior, we at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church want you to become a vital part of our family. The following information is provided to assist you in joining our church.

I want to join, but what do I do first?

In order to join our church, you must first have a membership meeting with one of the pastors. How does this happen? You may start the process by coming forward to talk to a pastor at the invitation during a worship service, by asking for a membership meeting when you come to the guest reception or by calling the church office. One of the pastors will contact you promptly.

What is a membership meeting?

In order to get to know you better before presenting your request for membership to the church, one of the pastors (often accompanied by a deacon) will visit with you to discuss the following:

  • Basic information (family/children)
  • Prior church membership
  • Personal conversion testimony
  • Baptism
  • Our doctrinal statement of beliefs
  • Our church covenant
  • Any questions you might have

After you have completed the membership meeting and meet the requirements for membership, one of the pastors will present you to the congregation as a candidate for membership at the end of the Sunday morning worship service. After the service, our members will come by to give you a handshake of welcome.

Will I have to be baptized to become a member?

Not if you have committed your life to Christ and have been baptized by immersion in a church with the same doctrinal beliefs as ours in regard to salvation and baptism. If you are unsure, one of our pastors will be glad to help you determine if you need to be baptized.

I am a student living in Greensboro only while I am in school. I want to be a part of this church, but I do not want to move my membership from my home church. What should I do?

You may join Friendly Avenue Baptist Church by “watchcare,” so that you have the rights and privileges of membership while remaining on your home church roll.

What if I have received Christ, been baptized by immersion but am coming from another denomination?

You may join Friendly Avenue on your statement of faith and baptism. This means that you are making a public statement to our church that you have accepted Christ as your Savior and have been baptized by immersion.

I am a member of another Southern Baptist Church. Do I need to notify them that I am joining Friendly Avenue Baptist Church?

No. We will contact your former church to request that they transfer your membership to Friendly Avenue Baptist Church.
